2022 Municipal Elections

This fall, CycleWR volunteers are meeting up with 2022 municipal election candidates across Waterloo Region to show off both good and bad active transportation infrastructure.

Due to a limited number of volunteers, CycleWR was only able to prioritize riding/meeting with candidates for a few positions, such as mayor or Regional councillor. All candidates below were emailed about setting up a ride, walk or meeting if their contact information was available on the candidate list. Some candidates did not respond, and others replied to our request but were unable to find a time that worked with our volunteers.

To ensure residents are informed about the views of candidates in all municipalities/wards, we sent out a questionnaire to all 184 candidates asking about infrastructure and mobility priorities. See the survey responses here.

CycleWR Questionnaire for Candidates

CycleWR encourages every eligible voter to get to know their municipal election candidates and make informed decisions on who best represents their interests and values. In addition to Rides with Candidates, we sent out a survey to all candidates for whom we could find an email address. We really appreciate those who took the time to respond.

CycleWR does not endorse any candidate. We intend to work with all successful candidates and incumbents after the election to help make cycling in Waterloo Region a safe, respected, convenient, and everyday mode of transportation for people of all ages and abilities.

To view the responses, follow the link below for your city or township. You will find responses from candidates for Regional Councillor (cities only), Mayor and Ward Councillor, all for your selected municipality. We have received no responses from North Dumfries or for Regional Chair.

We will continue to add responses every few days as we receive them, so if there is one you would like to see, reach out to them and ask them to respond.

If any candidate has not provided a survey response, we would encourage residents to send a polite email to their representatives as a reminder and ask them to fill out the survey. Similarly, CycleWR does not currently have capacity to organize rides/meetings with all candidates across all municipalities. Any interested cyclists/pedestrians should feel free to reach out to your elected officials before or after the election to share your concerns and invite them to meet-up along your commute!

If any candidate needs to get a link to the survey, please email hello@cyclewr.ca
