I Bike, I Vote: Sign the pledge

We asked candidates and voters in the fall 2018 municipal elections to commit to prioritizing cycling in Waterloo Region. You can still join us in asking for improved cycling in the region. If you’re signing the pledge on mobile, follow this link.

Voter pledge

As a resident of Waterloo Region, I pledge to encourage my local representatives to commit to the following:

Candidate pledge

If elected, I pledge to work with my colleagues to make the following happen:

  1. A minimum grid of connected cycling infrastructure, primarily segregated from traffic, within four years.
  2. A minimum funding commitment of $20 per resident per year to implement this plan across both local levels of government ($7 per resident per year at the city/township level and $13 per resident per year at the regional level).

Read more about what we mean by all that or sign now.

Want to sign as a business?

If you represent an organization or business that would like to support the pledge, please send your logo to web@cyclewr.ca and we can put it on our website! If you’d like to chat more about how we can work together to improve cycling in Waterloo Region, please get in touch or tweet at us @Cycle_WR.

Okay, I signed the pledge. What next?

Please take a moment to share the pledge with your friends and family. Then tell your candidates that you signed it and ask them to sign, too! Find your candidates’ contact information on waterlooregionvotes.org/ or in this spreadsheet.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help make sure councillors are aware of the challenges people face when biking in the region by taking them on tours of cycling infrastructure in their wards.

Can I sign the pledge if I don’t bike?

Yes! Your support is still very helpful even if you don’t bike – maybe even more so! It still demonstrates that voters want to see more equitable transportation infrastructure.

What are you doing with my information?

We will publicly share a summary of the results, possibly including ward-level information (that’s what your postal code is for). We will only use your contact information if you sign up for our newsletter (we also include postal codes in our newsletter contacts list).

If you have other questions, email hello@cyclewr.ca.
