Leading up to the 2022 municipal election, CycleWR volunteers have been taking municipal electoral candidates for bike rides to show off the best and worst of the cycling infrastructure in their ward/city/region. CycleWR volunteer Alex Kinsella took Rob Deutschmann, candidate for Regional Council, Kitchener, out for a ride. Here’s what Alex had to say about the ride:
Rob and I rode from Belmont Village up to Gaukel and back. We discussed the homeless encampments, safe consumption sites, and housing costs. He has adult children in town who he knows will struggle to find affordable places to live, so that is an issue he said he will work on if elected. Biking through Willow River Park, we discussed his proposed approach of not pursuing legal action against the people in the encampments. Overall, I believe Rob would work towards making our community more livable for everyone.
