As an avid cyclist and a candidate for Kitchener City Council, it was insightful to be involved as a volunteer for three candidate rides in our region.
Candidates who were not familiar with the success and the challenges of urban cycling in our region experienced first hand what cyclists see on a daily basis.
They were amazed to know a person can cycle in and around the region on signed routes and also impressed that a person can cycle to St Jacobs or Cambridge on trails. They also saw the differences between protected lanes, marked lanes and multi-user trails.
Cycling has more challenges ahead but there are many successes to celebrate too.
