Ride with Candidates: Matt Rogers – Cambridge Ward 2

For the 2026 municipal elections, CycleWR volunteers have been taking municipal electoral candidates on bike rides to show off the best and worst of the cycling infrastructure in their ward/city/region.

Below is a summary written by CycleWR volunteer Seilwyn Langlois, on their ride with municipal candidate for Cambridge Ward 2, Matt Rogers.

Matt and I connected last week and completed a one hour 20 km ride on Thursday. Matt actually rode much further as he came in from Hespeler to meet in downtown Galt at Cambridge City Hall.

We rode a portion of the “Cambridge Loop”, through Soper Park, Elgin St, Northview Heights Trail, and then Franklin MUT to the new multiplex soon to open on Wesley Boulevard.

Marked bike lanes on wide streets like Elgin North feel safe and comfortable but in the downtown area, separated bike lanes would be preferred.

Looking forward to completion of Elgin Street from Avenue Rd. to Samuelson and what is decided for Ainslie Street  or Water Street downtown.

One challenge noted is the steep hill onto the north end of the  Northview Heights Trail from Elgin St, very hard to climb from a stop position and no place to gain headway.

The attached photo is of us travelling the new MUT (not officially opened yet) on CanAmera Pkwy from Conestoga to Franklin, very nice.
