Brooklin and I had a lovely ride on Saturday morning. It was brisk but turned out to be a sunny beautiful fall day.
Brooklin cycles everywhere and knows the cycling infrastructure in Kitchener really well. Traveling south on Strasburg, Rittenhouse, Westmount, Fisher-Hallman, and Ottawa street, we got to see painted bike lanes, multi-use trails and roads without any cycling infrastructure. As we cycled, Brooklin talked about strengthening the connectivity in her ward and creating protected bike lanes on busy arterial roads, such as Strasburg Road and Ottawa Street. As we cycled around her ward, Brooklin also explained the need for more pedestrian-first infrastructure and raised crossings that reduce car speed and make active transportation safer. She is keen to see improvements and investment into active transportation! Here is a map of our route.
