Ride with Candidates: Alan Dicknoether – Wilmot Ward 2
For the 2026 municipal elections, CycleWR volunteers have been taking municipal electoral candidates on bike rides to show off the best and worst of the cycling infrastructure in their ward/city/region.
We were short of volunteers in Wilmot, so we asked two candidates to ride together! Here are Steven Martin’s (candidate for Township of Wilmot Ward 4) comments on his ride with Alan Dicknoether (Wilmot Ward 2).

Alan and I took you up on your (Tom Strickland’s, organizer of the Rides with Candidates initiative, and Board member of CycleWR) recommendation, and we had a nice ride this past Friday. We started in New Hamburg, which is Ward 4 of Wilmot Township, and also where we both live, and then rode out in the country to Ward 2. We rode through Philipsburg, and came back again to New Hamburg. We rode through Ward 4 and Ward 2, recognizing that construction can be hazardous to cyclists and experienced that not all car and truck drivers are patient with cyclists.
I am certainly interested in doing whatever I can to promote bike safety, and to promote things like bike lanes and adequate room on the shoulders of roads to ride.
