Ride with Candidates: Margaret Johnston (Kitchener Ward 8)

CycleWR volunteers Steve and Tessa took Kitchener city council candidate Margaret Johnston out for a bike ride. Here’s the report from Tessa:

We had a great ride last Friday with Kitchener city councillor (Ward 8) candidate Margaret Johnson and local resident Steve Woods. On our way up Belmont, we rode on the sidewalk (don’t tell bylaw) because we agreed riding with traffic was pretty scary. In contrast, we had nice jaunt down the Iron Horse Trail,  which Margaret said was one of her favourite places to bike. It was a fairly short ride, since our candidate already knew her way around the neighbor on a bike, and had in fact given residents a tour for the ward 8 Workshop on Wheels a few weeks earlier.

We had a good chat about some nearby roads we didn’t bike on that evening, such as Victoria, Westmount and Highland. Margaret shared our concerns that the speed of traffic on those road made cycling there dangerous without a protected lane. Thanks Margaret for taking the time to come out to ride and chat about cycling in the city!
