Municipal elections occurred on October 22, 2018. Our local municipal councils greatly influence how and what bike infrastructure will be built over the next four years. We wanted candidates to be aware of the challenges that people face when biking in the region, and show them that voters are looking for a council who shares their vision for a bike-friendly region.
CycleWR volunteers went on bike rides with 23 candidates (13 of whom were elected) to show off what works and what doesn’t for people who bike in Waterloo Region. In 2019, we’ll continue taking interested councillors for tours of the region, and we’re still looking for volunteers to show off their commutes or neighbourhood trails.
What you can do
Residents: show a municipal councillor where you like to (or don’t like to) bike in your neighbourhood.
Councillors: join a ride to learn more about bike infrastructure in your ward.
